Winemaking
The fruit was handpicked, de-stemmed and the berries just split to allow for minimal breakdown of the skin and to preserve the natural fruit freshness. The wine is aged in 45% new premium French oak barrels for 18 months.
Vintage
The 2021 vintage began with a mild spring and sufficient rainfall. The La Niña weather system created a strong cyclone season in the north, resulting in unusual conditions throughout summer. December and January were warm and dry by comparison, and February saw large rain events and high humidity. High attention to detail was required in the vineyard to alleviate disease pressure, and those who put the extra work in, reaped the rewards.
Aroma
Black fruits, currants and plum blossom with hints of cherry blossom and dark cocoa.
Palate
Dense textures of black fruits, spiced meats and dark chocolate are laid upon a fine and opulent body of blue fruit tannin and power. Tart hints of cherry skin and sherbet provide lift and poise to a persistent and mineral finish.
Cellaring
Enjoyed for it's freshness now or cellar for up to 10 years.
