Streicker Ironstone Block Old Vine Chardonnay 2024
Vineyard
Ironstone Vineyard, Wilyabrup
Growing Notes
The Ironstone Vineyard is in the heart of Wilyabrup, sitting on the ocean side of Caves Road. The Gingin clone chardonnay is renown in the region for its complexity and concentration. We began handpicking on the 12th January 2024.
Winemaking Notes
The fruit is handpicked, chilled overnight and whole bunch pressed with only the purest fraction of juice being transferred to French Oak barriques. After fermentation the wine is aged sur lie in barrel for 9 months.
Vintage Conditions
It was a warm and dry growing season from 2023-2024, with one of the earliest starts to vintage on record. Above average temperatures with little rainfall led to good growing conditions for vines and early budburst. The dry conditions eased the pressure of disease and a spectacular season for the Marri blossom kept the birds at bay.
Aroma
White pear, freshly squeezed limes, wet slate and subtle aromas of brioche.
Palate
A porcelain core of white fruit tannin and gravelly natural acidity drive the palate from start to finish, underpinning and infusion of oyster shell, wet slate, sea spray and lemon leaf throughout. Utterly pure, unctuous and poised.
Cellaring
Enjoyed for its freshness now or cellar for up to 10 years for further complexity.
Alcohol
13.5%
